Choosing the right domain
Choosing a Domain Name can be a tedious process. Your domain name simply reflects your business on the Internet. So if your domain name doesn't speak for itself, then the chances in your customers finding your web site is reduced. Keep the following in mind when choosing domain names;
Choosing Domain Names
  • If your company is based in Australia only, people will try to search for www.yourcompany.com.au as  or .net.au representing Australia. Therefore, you may choose .com.au or .net.au for domain names as your first preference. There are other .au that you may choose. • Choosing the actual name depends publicity and people knowing your product or service. You may like to use your company name as the domain name or you may use the trading name as your domain name. These are all depended on what your customers recognise you by.
  • Try to keep domain names short. Shorter names are easier to remember. But note, too short names may form abbreviations and it may become difficult to remember. Be creative and imaginative.
  • Try to avoid multi words per single word. E.g. if your domain was to be www.rightmeal.com.au, people may be confused with www.writemill.com.au or www.nightmill.com.au. Choose words which is distinct and unique. This example portrays that if you were advertising on radio or saying on the phone, people will not comprehend immediately. Choose words like www.goodfood.com.au as an example.
  • Register multiple domains to keep competitors out. If you register www.goodfood.com.au, you should register www.goodfood.net.au and www.goodfood.com or any similar to safeguard your company. This is so your competitors don't register something like your domain name and advertise their products on it. Your customers will be under the impression that it's your company.
